Saturday, February 11th, 2012Until the year 2007 no blue or purple hardy waterlily had ever existed. Pairait Songpanich of Thailand announced in 2007 he had a few hardy purple waterlilies and one blue hardy waterlily. . ‘Siam Purple 1′, and N. ‘Siam Blue’ were displayed to the world. Intersubgeneric crosses of hardy and tropical plants used to bring new hues to hardy waterlilies that had never existed before.
. ‘Siam Purple 1′ has gone on to win the 2012 Best new waterlily in the 2012 New International Waterlily Competition. . ‘Siam Blue’ unfortunately was sterile producing no new plants from 2007 to late 2011 when it was killed by apple snails after a great flood in Thailand.
New waterlily hybridizer Mike Giles of West Virginia USA has introduced his yet to be named new blue and purple hybrid waterlilies moving forward on Pairait’s work. Mike has created both hardy and intersubgeneric crosses and had good results with the color purple and modest progress with blue hues. We hope to introduce Mike Giles new hybrid waterlilies to Pond Megastore customers in 2013 or 2014. Mike is now beginning to release his hardy hybrid plants such as . ‘Sunfire’, . ‘Myra’, and. ‘Yellow Giant’.
Mike is a very interesting guy, he owns many acres of land on top a mountain in south West Virginia. We have visited him twice in 2011 and photographed and video taped much of his work. Please check in with his progress from time to time at Pond Megastore as we continue to update his new hybrid water lily plants. He only releases heavy blooming and many petal varieties of flowers which fill the pond with sweet scents and pretty colors. There are many water gardeners waiting in the wings for the blue and purple hardy waterlilies Mike has produced.

Heating Oil Prices Drop on Oil Release

With this unexpected release of supplies, this caught traders off guard and sent prices plummeting.
While prices have dropped a bit, they are hopeful that this will cause prices to stay down for some time. This should help consumers since prices have gone straight up since January of 2009. Now there are no real shortages of oil supply in the world now. Supplies are a little tight in Europe due to the war in Libya. This has cause Brent Crude oil to go premium to WTI Crude oil in the United States. Normally WTI is premium to Brent, but due to the Libyan situation, Brent crude oil has been going higher and higher.
